So today is Blue Monday. Apparently the third Monday of January is supposed to be the saddest and most depressing day of the year. The distance from Christmas and failed New Year’s Resolutions, combined with the lack of sunlight at this time of the year means that Blue Monday can be a very real thing.
But this morning as I took my morning walk with the dog, I saw Blue Monday in such a different light. The sky was deep blue, haloed by the brightest warm sunlight that just lifted my mood from the numerous worries and burdens to a feeling of pure joy at the clean and fresh landscape before me.
Natural light at this time of year can some days seem non-existent. In our home we have spent the last few weeks lighting candles every evening and buying new lamps to create a cosy and warm atmosphere. Although our homes can now seem bare and minimalist after taking down the Christmas decorations now is a time to really focus on what helps make us happy and how bringing rich personal touches to our spaces can help us enjoy life more.
So why not light that candle, wrap up in that cosy blanket and devour the last of the Christmas Chocolate. I choose for my Blue Monday not to be so sad. Why not go for a walk in the sunlight and just take in the clean fresh slate that the New Year presents. And remember that spring is not so far away.
The colour palette this month is a collection of landscape inspired tones, the beautiful clear blue sky and the warm bright sun.
The fresh blue of the sky is a deep yet peaceful hue. The brightness of sunlight is warm and comforting. Winter sun is truly a showcase of nature’s beautiful colour palette.
